How do I get rid of cigarette smoke in shoes?

October 31st, 2009 John Landon 7 Comments »

I just bought some stylish ‘new to me’ leather shoes that were previously owned by someone who probably died of lung cancer. They reek. I’m storing them sealed in a plastic box on a bed of baking soda, and they still stink. I’m worried I’m going to absorb nicotine through my skin while I wear them! What should I try next?

Isn’t smoking a wonderful addiction?
Clean the shoes with saddle soap inside and out.
Wipe down inside and out with 1 part vinegar/1 part water solution; let dry.
Wipe down again with Nature’s Miracle (pet store product-enzymatic cleaner for killing organic smells); let dry; repeat if necessary.
Rub in inexpensive leather conditioner to soften the leather.
Then do the baking soda thing again, but with a new box.
If they still smell get used to being called "Stink Foot".

Help On Rinoa Cosplay?

October 22nd, 2009 John Landon 1 Comment »

I wanted to cosplay Rinoa Heartilly from Final Fantasy: http://ui31.gamespot.com/1694/rinoa_2.jpg and i was just wondering if any of you could recommend me shops that would have those styles of clothes or shoes, or any templates so that i can try making it if i can’t find anything? Any tips would be greatly appreciated too. I live in Melbourne, around Eastland, but i can go to the city too or any places in between~ Thank you so much :)
Hi! You can get a black bodysuit or black top and shorts. On top of the shorts, wear a denim miniskirt with the buttons. Then get a blue dress in a similar fabric to the one she wears and cut it right on front, sew it and then tie it with a piece of the dress. Cut the sleeves off and wear them in the lower arms. The dress should have white wings printed on the back. Or try Ebay, I’ve seen costumes there for sale and the jewelry, too. Good luck!

Cleaning Your Carpets to Perfection

October 9th, 2009 John Landon No Comments »

When you move into a new home you’re probably wondering what has happened to your carpet and feel it needs to be cleaned. This is one of the smartest ideas anyone can have when they move into a new home. Even if it was done by the previous owners after they moved everything there is still the chance of the carpet being dirty.

Carpets hold all the dirty little secrets of everything that’s occurred in a home, whether it’s been dirt tracked through or soda pop spilt its still there after the carpet has been vacuumed on many occasions.

There are many carpet cleaning companies available, but not everyone can afford to have someone come and clean the carpets. Finding a carpet cleaner yourself may not be as complicated as you think. Many stores have rental services available where you can rent a carpet cleaner for a day or how ever many that you need it. All you will need to do is purchase their cleaning products, pay the rental fees and you’ll be on your way to cleaning your carpets.

If you do end up purchasing carpet cleaning services you may see better results then doing it on your own as the equipment they use is heavy duty, unlike the rental carpet cleaner you may get in a store. With carpet cleaning services it would be wise to do it the day before you move into your home so there is nothing in the way. This allows the cleaners to get everything from corner to corner. Just ensure if you do this people take off their shoes when they come in to keep your carpets in tip top shape.

There are many different types of fabrics used to clean carpets, and many more that are stain resistant. Many are confused by what it means when carpets are stain resistant, but here’s a fact you may want to know. If you spill something onto a stain resistant carpet and clean it off, that area is no longer stain resistant as when cleaning it removes the stain resistant chemicals that were utilized.

Every carpet is different and every carpet can be more complicated then the previous to clean. By hiring a cleaning service for carpets you can save yourself the stress of having to fuss cleaning the carpets for hours on end. When cleaning carpets they tend to become a bit moist so don’t put anything on them until they are completely dry or you could find yourself holding the water in that spot which would eventually grow mould underneath your carpet, which is a large repair fee if that occurs.

Take the time to clean your carpets on a regular basis after you’ve moved into your home. A regular vacuum can do wonders, but by having your carpets cleaned regularly you will keep your carpets in excellent shape. With the proper cleaning products and equipment you can keep your carpets brand new for many years to come.
