		<description>There used to be hundreds of them in UK and over a dozen in London.  Nearly every town in UK had a Bata shoeshop.
I've seen them in India and South America but all the UK stores have now gone.
The company was started by a Czech family in Zlin, moved to Ontario because of the threat from Hitler and impending war, and is now headquarted in Lausanne in Switzerland. 
It still has shops in 60 or so countries round the world.
