Nearly every town in UK had a Bata shoeshop. I've seen them in India and South America but all the UK stores have now gone. The company was started by a Czech family in Zlin, moved to Ontario because of the threat from Hitler and impending war, and is now headquarted in Lausanne in Switzerland.
